Troop 4672 visits Japanese Ambassador
Girl Scout Cadette troop 4672 in Takoma Park made over 1,000 paper cranes as an expression of solidarity for the March 11, 2011 tragedies that struck Japan and presented the cranes to Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisake during a 40-minute visit to the Embassy on June 19, 2011. Following the formal ceremony and interviews with Japanese television, the Ambassador invited the girls to join him in further conversation. Over snacks and drinks, they discussed the rebuilding efforts in Japan, their own experiences in camping and Girl Scouts, and the Ambassador gave each girl a string loop and taught them variations of cat’s cradle string games. Prior to their visit to the embassy, the girls had voted to donate $300 from their troop treasury to Save the Children for their relief efforts for children in Japan. Photographer: Unknown
